Warm Beach resident John Schenk is a veteran journalist and eyewitness to history whose remarkable career took him into dangerous situations, hidden worlds, and some of the most significant humanitarian events of his time.

In a powerful new series from the Age Out Loud podcast, John sits down with Warm Beach Executive Director and host Gary Dewhirst to share the stories behind his extraordinary life and career.

Where the Journey Began

The first episode returns to the beginning of John’s journalism career, when he and a reporting partner earned the trust of members of Satan’s Choice, one of Canada’s most notorious biker gangs.

John recalls spending time inside their world, the dangerous situations he encountered while pursuing the truth, and the experiences that helped shape him as both a journalist and a man.

Viewers will also see original newspaper articles, photographs, video, and some of the people John describes—bringing this remarkable chapter of his life vividly to the screen.

From Journalism to World Vision

In future episodes, the series will follow John’s work with World Vision and the assignments that took him around the globe.

He will reflect on witnessing war, ethnic cleansing and genocide in Kosovo and Rwanda, as well as humanitarian suffering and famine in Ethiopia and Somalia. These stories offer a rare, firsthand perspective on moments that changed countless lives and captured the attention of the world.

But John’s story is about more than journalism.

Running throughout his extraordinary career is a deeply personal prodigal son journey—a story of wandering, searching, grace, and the way God continued guiding him back toward faith and purpose.
