Mission Minded

The leaves have not even fallen off the trees, but Warm Beach Senior Community is preparing for Christmas! For the past eight years, our resident volunteers have participated in packing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse, which is a Christian relief and evangelism organization led by Franklin Graham. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good New of Jesus Christ.
Through the efforts of Samartian's Purse, more than 85 million shoe box gifts have been delivered to children in over 130 countries around the world. For some boys and girls, the boxes are the first Christmas presents they have ever received. In 2010 alone, the United States contributed over 5.5 million shoe box gifts. The shoe box gifts are stuffed full of toys, soap, toothbrushes, pencils, school supplies, etc. which are all items these children could not otherwise afford.
Twenty residents, staff, and family members joined together to create an assembly line to pack the shoeboxes full of gifts in Beachwood Lounge. Warm Beach resident, Carol Jarrett has been the ringleader of this effort on campus. She has participated since 2003 and has collaborated with other volunteers over the years to send 500+ shoeboxes to needy children. She shops all year long for items and rejoices in sales so she can stock up on needed items! Warm Beach Senior Community continues to celebrate the efforts of our volunteers who continue to contribute no matter what their capabilities or limitations may be.
